Neil Kaufman took his time to make sure that the new bicycle I purchased was a comfortable fit and good match for the kind of cycling I plan to do. He is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and pleasant to work with. He clearly enjoyed telling me stories about the background of some of his service technicians, of whom he is very proud. This is a long-running family business, and that ethos is very evident in how they treat their customers. The bicycle that I purchased (Giant OCR2) was last year's model, but Neil was candid about the fact that the 2008 line includes parts that are of a somewhat lower quality, because manufacturing and shipping costs have increased, and the company has maintained the retail price of the bike by reducing component costs. Neil has an engaging, low-key manner that makes you feel as though you've known him for a long time. I don't envision many problems with my new road bike, but I do look forward to many years of high-quality service from B & K's shop. These guys are the "real deal". They have a great story (check their website!) and a genuine commitment to customer service. The one oversight in the buying process was the Neil forgot to show me how to use the shifters. I bought my last bike about 20 years ago, and the shifters on this new one are completely different from anything I've used before. When I took my first ride after bringing the bike home, the first 5 minutes or so were truly comical, as I tried desperately to figure out how to downshift while approaching a traffic signal. Eventually I caught on, and it was smooth riding from there. I would not hesitate to recommend B & K for anybody who wants to buy a better-quality bike. They have good products and a highly experienced and service-oriented staff. As an independent retailer and long-running family business, they take care of their customers in ways that aren't so common now.
