• TRICKLE-DOWN TECH: The 2008 men's and women's Fuel EX 5.5s have the R1 suspension system that debuted on higher-end Fuels last year. Among the improvements: an additional 20 mm of rear travel. Trek suspension guru Jose Gonzalez worked with Fox to ensure that the damping rate and spring tuning of the Float R shock allow for efficient pedaling.
• YOU CAN DO IT: The Fuel's relaxed head angle makes for stable descents; the large-lugged tires will make you feel ready to tackle any trail.
